“Traditional values” politician cheats on wife: Australian edition

The most predictable joke in the world goes Down Under:

He’s the man who strongly opposed gay marriage, arguing it was against traditional family values. Now it’s been revealed Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce is expecting a baby with his former staff member, after leaving his wife of 24 years.

Mr Joyce’s former wife, Natalie, said she was “deeply saddened” by the affair given her husband’s former media adviser-now live-in girlfriend Vikki Campion had been a welcome visitor to the family home.

“This affair has been going on for many months and started when she was a paid employee,” Mrs Joyce said in a statement.

I guess “traditional values” means betraying your spouse and shacking up with your employee. Or is it still cheating on your cancer-stricken wife with your future second wife, who you then cheat on with your future third wife whilst simultaneously attacking the President for having an affair? Or is it cheating on your wife with a porn star and then paying her $130,000 to keep quiet? Honestly, it’s just so hard to keep it all straight.

Joyce is also very peeved that people aren’t respecting his privacy:

“I think once we start going through this salami slicing of a private life, where does it end?”

A politician who tried to control the private lives of millions of others is complaining after his own misconduct attracts scrutiny to his private life. Let that sink in.

Honestly, and this may sound a little naive, but I’m astounded that anyone who claims to represent “traditional values” isn’t immediately laughed out of any room they’re in.
