Here’s a roundup of recent headlines involving police shootings of pets and other animals:
Averted | Dalton, GA (11/09/17): Police calmly explain to a woman why they won’t shoot at or otherwise attack a loose dog that’s damaging her car. Animal control eventually arrives and returns the animal safely to its owner, who agrees to pay for the damages.
(via Dogs Shot by Police | Facebook)Unjustified | Ventura, CA (11/24/17): Uninformative police report claims two dogs charged at officers, one of whom immediately opens fire, killing one. Officer allegedly suffered minor injuries from “falling” when the dog was “advancing”.
(via Dogs Shot by Police | Facebook)Attempted | Paso Robles, CA (11/25/17): Police respond to noise complaint, immediately fire several rounds at a family’s “unrestrained pit bull” in its yard that allegedly “behave[ed] aggressively”, injuring the dog. Owner says he never heard the cops knock nor the dog bark.
(via Dogs Shot by Police | Facebook)Accidental | Valley Center, CA (11/26/17): Shooting involving a man ramming a stolen van into police cars leaves the perp’s dog injured but alive. Here’s hoping the pooch finds a better home.
(via Dogs Shot by Police | Facebook)Unclear | Riverside County, CA (11/29/17): Utterly useless police statement says a dog was shot by deputies serving papers at a residence. The dog reportedly survived. No further details known.
(via Dogs Shot by Police | Facebook)Possibly Justified | Yolo County, CA (11/29/17): Four-hour standoff with a barricaded fugitive includes shooting an “aggressive” dog after nonlethal equipment were reportedly deployed. Dog was rushed to a vet but had to be euthanized.
