Roy Moore may have a problem, what with his name becoming synonymous with cruising and groping teenage girls, but that’s not stopping him from running for Alabama’s vacant Republican Senate seat. Nor is it stopping a large number of Republican lawmakers and voters, all of them “traditional values” types, from supporting him and attacking the numerous women (themselves Republicans) who’ve accused him. And through it all, President Trump has been mostly silent on the issue, presumably waiting to see which way the tide is turning.
Until today, when he rightfully condemned Moore and said a creepy child-perv has no place in the Sen— oh, who am I kidding. Of course he endorsed his fellow sexual predator.
President Trump on Tuesday appeared to offer support to Republican candidate Roy Moore in Alabama's U.S. Senate race, saying the former state judge “totally denies” allegations of sexual misconduct against underage girls years ago.
“He denies it,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “He says it didn't happen, and you have to listen to him, also.”
Trump criticized Moore's opponent, Democrat Doug Jones, as being “terrible on crime, terrible on borders.”
“We don’t need a liberal person in there, a Democrat,” Trump added.
Color me shocked that the same man who thinks there’s “very fine people” amongst neo-Nazis would also support a man repeatedly accused of sexually harassing children. Because in the end, it’s all partisanship, and basic decency, no matter how absolutely minimal, has no place in Republican politics.
