This Week in Puppycide: 11/04/17

Here’s a roundup of recent headlines involving police shootings of pets and other animals:

• Possibly Justified | Aurora, MO (undated): Bare-bones article says two boxers escape a fenced yard and attack and kill a pony, then attack investigators who turned up. Officers first try to subdue the dogs, then shoot them both, killing one.

• Unjustified | Passaic, NJ (undated): Cop shoots & kills animal control officer’s American bulldog on orders from another animal control officer. Dog allegedly got loose and fought with another dog, but bodycam footage reveals she was lying down when she was shot. Latter animal control officer claimed dog bit six dogs and a person, yet no complaint was ever filed.

• Unjustified | Toledo, OH (Oct. 28): SWAT drug raid at wrong address leaves thousands of dollars’ worth of damage and two murdered dogs. They find a blood pressure pill and a broken scale. Owner plans to hire an attorney.

• Unjustified | Evangeline Parish, LA (Oct. 28): Cop responding at a home is “attacked” by the family’s 12-pound, ankle-high terrier mix, immediately shoots & kills her … then complains about wasting an expensive hollow-point round.

• Unjustified | Mansfield, TX (Oct. 29): Off-duty cop walking his dog shoots & kills a family’s Great Dane that allegedly “came at him aggressively”. Several children were nearby.

• Possibly Justified | Cheyenne, WY (Oct. 30): Officer searching for a wanted felon is attacked by a “120-pound Mastiff” that injures him, forcing him to shoot & kill the dog.
