Yet another massacre, yet another round of late-night TV hosts sharing their somber reflections on the epidemic of gun violence in the US. Jim Jefferies in particular sounds kind of hopeless about it, and I agree – the overwhelming majority of the country knows exactly what needs to be done about it, but as long as Congress whores itself out to the gun lobby, nothing will ever change, and the blood will keep on flowing.

Now, I appreciate the fact that I have a platform where I can have my opinion heard every week. I don’t take that for granted. Now, I’m sure that many people are tuning in to hear what I have to say about this tragedy; I have been very open about my opinions on the Second Amendment and gun control in this country.
But I’m gonna tell you now that I have nothing more to say. I’ve said everything I can; you know what needs to be done to prevent this from happening again. But we didn’t change the laws after Sandy Hook, we didn’t change the laws after the Pulse nightclub, and we’re not gonna change them now.
So if you think you wanna do something, why don’t you – tweet #PrayForVegas, change the filter on your profile picture, post broken hearts on your Instagram. But know that you are literally doing nothing but pissing into the wind. This is our reality now. America, you let this happen.
I dare you to prove me wrong. It’s faintly and darkly amusing to hear some people encourage you not to accept this as the “new normal”. I agree: There’s nothing new about it. There’s never been a time, at least not in the last several decades, when the US wasn’t experiencing a mass shooting almost every other day. And thanks to the murderously complicit bastards in the NRA and other firearm industry shills, that’s not set to change anytime soon. If even the slaughter of grade-schoolers in Newtown didn’t bring any reforms whatsoever, nothing will.
Like Jefferies, I desperately hope I’ll one day be proven wrong. But I won’t hold my breath.
