• ATTEMPTED in Catron, MO (07/21/17): Small town police chief charged with animal abuse for shooting a loose labrador that tried to “crawl up his leg”. Dog survived. Chief later threatened retaliation against those who reported him.

• ATTEMPTED in Marinette, WI (08/17/17): Kids’ false 911 call brings cop who immediately shoots family’s chocolate lab, Remington, who was walking in his yard, according to a neighbor witness. Family says Remington has no history of attacks. Dog survives, but police dept. reneged on their promise to foot the vet bill, leaving family with over $5,000 in vet bills. Find their GoFundMe here. (As I prepare to post this, the family claims in update #18 that the police department reported the GoFundMe page in apparent retaliation for the story going viral. The funds are now on hold pending an investigation.)

• ATTEMPTED in Elmendorf, TX (08/18/17): Police report claims officers investigating a vehicle burglary shot a dog whilst chasing a suspect. Dog’s injuries are unknown, as are other details.

• POSSIBLY JUSTIFIED in Hicksville, NY (08/18/17): Escaped, “snarling” German shepherd enters neighbor’s home and terrorizes children, bites adults. Cops respond, shoot & kill the dog on the spot. Another loose dog is captured without incident. Charges pending against owner.

• San Antonio, TX (08/20/17): Cops looking for owner’s brother get chased after by two “defensive” pit bulls, immediately shoot both. One dies instantly, the other lies bleeding in the street and dies the next day. No nonlethal means reportedly used.

• ATTEMPTED in Canton, NC (08/21/17): Cops responding to call about a dog chasing children find a family pit bull on her lawn and shoot her. Owner disputes claim the dog was aggressive, but didn’t witness the shooting; now faces loose dog violation. Same dog was shot back in June whilst on a leash.

• Finally, AVERTED in New York City, NY: Police use Taser to safely subdue a “pit bull” during a fight between two “heavily drugged” men. More like this, please.
