Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is the single most contemptible human being in Congress (and it’s not just me saying that). That might have something to do with him being such a shameless partisan hack that, the day after the Republicans’ latest imploded effort to repeal Obamacare (with a bill that would have stripped healthcare away from millions, bankrupted the rest, and was so unworkable that even health insurance companies hated it), he tried to blame the people who were never invited to participate in writing the bill in the first place:
“I imagine many Democrats were celebrating last night. I hope they consider what they’re celebrating. The American people are hurting, they need relief, and it’s regretful that our Democratic colleagues decided early on that they did not want to engage with us seriously in the process to deliver that relief.”
I don’t know what cosmic consequences should happen to anyone that utterly devoid of integrity and basic decency (considering his efforts to ram that monstrous bill through despite fully knowing what the consequences would be for the country), but the fact that they aren’t happening is yet more evidence that we don’t live in a just universe.
Meanwhile, the Republicans now want to try and repeal Obamacare outright without even figuring out a replacement, a plan that’s even worse than their previous one, and – oh, look, it’s already failing.
Right now, the only way for the US to keep winning is for the regressives in power to keep losing.
